Naturopathic Medicine

Health Over All Naturopathy

Naturopathic Medicine

The term “naturopathy” is used to describe the amalgamation of modern research, diagnostics and scientific knowledge, with a proven centuries-old system of diagnosis and natural, non-toxic therapies.

Naturopathic medicine’s philosophy strives to determine the root cause of acute and chronic disease, while supporting the body’s innate ability to heal itself. In order to do so, great emphasis is placed on the doctor-patient relationship in this primary care setting. A Naturopathic Doctor treats all aspects of health from prenatal to geriatrics, with genuine consideration for the individual patient’s needs. Every individual is impacted by disease in a unique way, thus his/her physiological, psychological, social, spiritual and lifestyle factors are an integral part of naturopathic care and whole body medicine.

In Ontario, Naturopathic Doctors complete 8 years of post-secondary education in core medical science, nutrition, acupuncture, botanical medicine and lifestyle counselling.Naturopath Doctor’s receive their professional licensing from the Board of Directors of Drugless Therapy-Naturopathy (BDDT-N). On July 1, 2015, Naturopathic Doctors were regulated under the Regulated Health Practitioners Act (RHPA) alongside medical doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.

Don’t forget – Although Naturopathic Medicine is not covered by OHIP, many extended health insurance plans provide financial coverage. Check with your insurance provider or employer to find out if you have coverage!
